Terms of use

Clear rules for a product built on clear rules.

These terms explain what ScrollRot provides, what Apple controls, and the practical limits of Screen Time protection.

Agreement

These Terms of Use apply when you download, subscribe to, or use ScrollRot. By using the app, you agree to these terms and Apple's applicable App Store terms. These terms complement Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA), which governs your license to use the ScrollRot app; if these terms conflict with that agreement, the Apple license agreement controls. If you do not agree, do not use ScrollRot.

ScrollRot gives you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, subject to these terms and the App Store rules.

ScrollRot's handling of local app data and voluntary support email is described in the Privacy Policy.

What ScrollRot does

ScrollRot is an iOS commitment device. You pick apps, categories, or websites and give them a shared daily allowance of free time. When the allowance is used up, the picked apps lock until midnight; during any quiet hours you set, they lock until the window ends. The only way back in is to move: push-ups or squats, counted by your iPhone's front camera, buy a fixed number of minutes.

ScrollRot uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to apply these rules, and works on iPhone only, running iOS 17.6 or later. Apple's Managed Settings framework can lock at most 50 individually selected apps at once; picking a category instead covers more apps under a single limit.

Screen Time access can be revoked, the app can be deleted, and iOS can delay or omit system callbacks. ScrollRot therefore does not claim that protection is tamper-proof or impossible to bypass.

Subscriptions and billing

ScrollRot Premium is offered through auto-renewable App Store subscriptions, with weekly and yearly plans. Available plans, billing periods, local prices, and taxes are shown by StoreKit before you confirm a purchase. The purchase sheet is the controlling offer. Protection runs only while your subscription is active; you are asked to subscribe at the end of onboarding before you can use ScrollRot.

  • payment is charged by Apple to your Apple Account;
  • subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until canceled;
  • you can manage or cancel auto-renewal in Apple's subscription settings;
  • canceling stops the next renewal and access normally continues through the paid period;
  • any introductory offer or free trial applies only when shown by Apple before purchase;
  • Restore, available on the paywall, asks Apple to restore eligible verified entitlements;
  • refund requests are handled by Apple under its policies.

Renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel anytime in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.

Eligible subscription access can be restored on supported devices using the Apple Account that made the purchase. Protection selections, rules, and history remain local to each device and do not sync through ScrollRot.

ScrollRot does not process your payment details. If your subscription lapses, is revoked, cannot be verified, or enters a state without premium access, ScrollRot turns protection off once the App Store confirms that no subscription is active, and your picked apps open again.

Apple handles billing and refund requests. You can manage an active subscription in Apple's subscription settingsor request billing help at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • choosing rules, an allowance, and quiet hours that are appropriate for your circumstances;
  • keeping access to your Apple Account and device secure;
  • granting and maintaining Screen Time and camera access so ScrollRot can function;
  • not reverse engineering, interfering with, reselling, or unlawfully using the app.

Health and physical activity

ScrollRot asks you to do push-ups or squats, counted by your iPhone's camera, to unlock protected apps. Only exercise within your own physical abilities. Stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath, and consult a doctor if you are unsure whether these exercises are safe for you. You can change the exercise and the number of reps required at any time in Rules.

Limits and disclaimers

ScrollRot is a behavioral support tool, not medical care, diagnosis, treatment, crisis support, or a substitute for professional advice. It does not guarantee reduced screen time, improved health, productivity, or any particular result.

The app depends on Apple frameworks, device settings, App Store availability, and operating system behavior outside ScrollRot's control. To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScrollRot is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every use case.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScrollRot will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use the app. Rights that cannot legally be waived remain unaffected.

Changes and contact

We may update the app or these terms as the product, Apple platforms, or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the current version. You may stop using ScrollRot at any time. Removing the app does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancellation is handled in Apple's subscription settings.
