Privacy summary
ScrollRot uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks to lock the apps, categories, or sites you choose, and your iPhone's front camera to count push-ups and squats so you can earn time back. ScrollRot does not transmit any of this to a ScrollRot server.
Your rules, activity history, and camera frames are processed and stored locally on your iPhone. ScrollRot has no account, no server, and no analytics or third-party SDKs.
ScrollRot does not collect personal data or usage data from the app. The information described below is either kept on your device, processed by Apple to provide system features you request, or voluntarily sent by you when you contact support.
Data kept on your device
ScrollRot stores the following information locally, as JSON files in its App Group container on your iPhone, protected by iOS data protection:
- opaque Screen Time tokens for the apps, categories, or sites you pick;
- your rules: daily allowance, quiet hours, price settings, and earn-time settings;
- the current earned-time window and today's daily-limit status;
- an activity log of reps, unlocks, and minutes earned per day, kept for a rolling 60 days;
- a pending "open the movement screen" hand-off, used to bring you back to ScrollRot from a locked app.
It also keeps a subscription status cache in the app's own settings storage.
Apple gives ScrollRot opaque Family Controls tokens for the apps, categories, or sites you select. ScrollRot cannot read what these tokens represent — it only knows whether the items you picked are locked or unlocked. If you revoke Screen Time access and grant it again, iOS forgets your selections and you will need to pick them again in Rules.
This data stays on your device until you erase it (Settings → Erase all ScrollRot data) or delete the app.
Apple system services
Screen Time
Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity authorize your selections, lock them under your rules, and unlock them for earned time. ScrollRot cannot lock anything without Screen Time access. If ScrollRot shows Screen Time usage numbers, they are rendered by Apple's DeviceActivityReport extension in its own sandbox, which ScrollRot's app cannot read or export data from.
Camera
The movement screen uses your iPhone's front camera to count push-ups and squats with Apple's Vision framework, analyzing roughly 12 frames per second in memory on your device. Video is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. You can turn off camera access in iOS Settings; ScrollRot cannot count reps without it.
Subscriptions
Apple processes purchases and payment information through StoreKit. ScrollRot reads verified StoreKit entitlement status to decide whether ScrollRot Premium is active. ScrollRot does not store payment card details or its own transaction history.
Notifications
Protection alerts (for example, remaining time, daily limit reached, or a reminder to earn time) are local notifications only. ScrollRot does not use a push notification server or remote tokens. Notifications are optional; you can decline or turn them off in iOS Settings.
Your controls
In ScrollRot, open Settings and, under Start over, tap Erase all ScrollRot data to stop protection, lift every lock, and delete your rules and activity history. This action is disabled while your picked apps are locked; earn time first, or wait until they open again.
Erasing local data does not cancel an App Store subscription or erase Apple's transaction records. Use Settings → Manage subscription for subscription changes.
You can revoke Screen Time access, camera access, or notification permission at any time in iOS Settings. Revoking Screen Time access prevents ScrollRot from locking or unlocking apps. Revoking camera access prevents ScrollRot from counting reps. Revoking notification permission stops protection alerts. Deleting the app removes its local data from your device.
Website, support email, and external links
ScrollRot does not add advertising pixels, behavioral analytics, or tracking cookies to this website. A hosting provider may process standard request and security logs, such as an IP address, requested URL, user agent, and timestamp, as needed to deliver and secure the site. ScrollRot does not use those logs to build advertising or behavioral profiles. Links to Apple or other websites are governed by those services' policies.
If you email support, your and our email providers process your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to include. ScrollRot receives that information only because you sent it so the support request can be answered. Do not include the names of the apps you protect, your Screen Time selections, Apple Account details, or other information that is not needed.
Support correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably necessary to answer your request, troubleshoot the issue, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. You may ask us to delete a support conversation, subject to records we must retain for legal or security reasons, by emailing thescrollrotapp@gmail.com.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when ScrollRot's features or legal obligations change. The date above identifies the current version. A new SDK, backend, telemetry service, or cloud feature will require this policy and the App Store privacy disclosure to be reviewed first.
Questions about privacy or requests concerning support correspondence can be sent to thescrollrotapp@gmail.com.
